Reverend Oliver James Clark, Jr., was called as Pastor of Preservation of Zion Fellowship in March 2007 and was installed in May 2008. On February 4, 2015, the members of Preservation of Zion Fellowship Church voted to change the name of the Church to Great Salvation Christian Fellowship, a Missionary Baptist Church. The name was divinely imparted to Pastor Clark. The Church currently worships each Sunday morning at 11:00 am at Fairview Elementary School in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
Reverend Clark was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 7, 1954. He was the sixth and youngest child of Ada and Oliver James Clark, Sr. He was baptized at Mt. Olive Free will Baptist church in November 1960 along with his siblings.
Reverend Clark attended the Baltimore City Public Schools and in 1972 he graduated from Forest Park High School. He attended Frostburg State College (University) and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Political Science.
Reverend Clark completed a Master of Divinity Degree from Evangel Theological Seminary in 2002; and Master of Science Degree in Quality Systems Management from the National Graduate School in 2003. In addition, Reverend Clark also holds certifications in Contract Management, Acquisitions, and Management.
Reverend Clark enlisted in the Army in 1977 and served on active duty from September 1977 to August 1980 as an intelligence analyst. While still on active duty Reverend Clark married his college sweetheart Bernadine A. Thornton on May 6, 1978. Their union produced two sons, Oliver III and Marcus Brian.
Reverend Clark served in the Army Reserves and the DC National Guard as a Transportation Officer and retired after 23 years of service in 2006. During his military service Reverend Clark received several military awards, including the Meritorious Service Award, the Army Commendation Award and the Army Achievement Award. He has also held several civilian positions as Accounting Manager for a large DC law firm, Contracting Officer for the DC National Guard
and Deputy Director for the Institute for Defense Analysis. Reverend Clark is currently working as a Senior Acquisition Management Analyst for the Department of Homeland Security.
Oliver and Bernadine Clark joined Chantilly Baptist Church in 1986. He was licensed under Reverend Dr. Leroy O. Payton in July 1995. In preparation for ordination Reverend Clark was catechized under Pastor Norman S. Smith of Mt. Oliver Baptist Church in Rectortown, VA. In February 2005 Reverend Clark was ordained under Reverend Dr. Jerry Bryant at Chantilly Baptist Church.
In May 1999, Bernadine Thornton Clark went home to be with the Lord. She is buried at Chantilly Baptist Church in Chantilly, VA.
